Book List

Like most things on my website, this is for me. If you can find some sort of benefit from it, congratulations. This list is in reverse-chronological order of completion (most recently read books first).. The further back, the less complete the list is.

Adventures of a Church Historian by Leonard J. Arrington
August 2005. I first read Arrington's The Mormon Experience in high school when I was writing a lengthy paper on the Missouri Mormon War of 1838. The thing I like about his writing is that you can't easily tell whether or not he's Mormon; he tries very hard to be fair. Adventures of a Church Historian relates Leonard Arrington's experiences as a Mormon historian, particularly during the period when he was the Church Historian of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It is a fascinating book.
Harry Potter and the Half-blood Prince Book 6. by J. K. Rowling
July 2005. As with the other Harry Potter books, it's great for reading all day and forgetting about everything else.
The Posthumous Papers of the Pickwick Club by Charles Dickens
July 2005. The Pickwick Papers was Dickens' first book and was published as a serial. It's a rambling but very entertaining story about Mr. Pickwick and his friends. Mr. Pickwick is a noble gentleman with a very serious self-image. Dickens relates this personality by using flowery language to describe even the most mundane events. The Pickwick Papers is best read as a serial, a couple of chapters at a time, but it is very funny.
