I have a lot of interests and a lot of opinions. This page is a place for me to put up any descriptions, explanations, observations, or remarks.

My purpose for writing is to share information. Hopefully something here will help someone. If you agree with anything here, link to it so that other people can find it. If you disagree, send me an email. I'm happy to change an opinion given good reason.

Music

I love just about all types of [musical] music including classical, jazz, and various international genres (World Music Cultures was one of the best classes I ever took in college). I enjoy singing, and I play the bagpipes, trombone, and piano (only easy stuff on the piano). I have too many favorite instruments to even begin listing them.

Introduction to Bagpipe Music: Bagpipe music is very different from most other types of western music. If people knew how to listen to it they would enjoy it a lot more.

Goofing Off

Being stupid sometimes can be a lot of fun.

Fun With Paraffin: With a little candle wax and a lot of stupidity, you can get some great pictures.

Computers

Many people are scared of computers or just plain hate them. Understanding technology makes a huge difference.

How the Internet Works: I wrote a paper about how the Internet works for a technical writing class. I probably would have done it sooner or later even without the class, and it was actually a lot of fun to do. I've tried to make the topic approachable while being careful to be complete and accurate.
Having a Web Page: I must have learned HTML sometime around 1995. Since then I've had some great experiences and have developed some good resources on a strange variety of topics. One of the things that I find the most interesting and amusing is looking at the search terms that people use to get to my page.

Serbia and the Balkans

I lived in Bulgaria for half a year and in Serbia for a year and a half as a full-time missionary of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints ("Crkva Isusa Hrista svetaca poslednjih dana" and "Tsurkvata na Isus Hristos na svetiite od poslednite dni" in Serbian and Bulgarian respectively). I really miss living in the Balkans.

Sveti Sava: Sveti Sava (Saint Sava) is the patron saint of Serbia and is an important part of Serbian culture. As with any important figure, legends of Sveti Sava sometimes go a little too far. I bet you thought it was Moses that parted the sea.

BYU

Overall, I love BYU. It's a great school. I recommend it to anyone who's thinking about going there. It's also got its share of idiots, though fortunately you don't have to deal with them too often. Here are some of my thoughts on specific aspects of BYU. I'll refrain from sharing either good or bad opinions about the CS Department because I'm an employee, and I don't want to get myself into too much trouble.
